Christopher Street Day & Gay Pride in Pictures
The first Christopher Street Day (CSD) parades in Germany took place in Bremen, Cologne and Berlin in June 1979. Ten years earlier, the LGBTQIA+ community protested against brutal police raids on New York's Christopher Street at the "Stonewall Riots" on 28 June 1969. In the USA, as in Germany, homosexuality was still considered a criminal offence at that time. Today, the European Christopher Street Day is a party to celebrate LGBTQIA+ life, internationally the day is celebrated as Gay Pride Parade. At the same time, CSD & Gay Pride are commemorations and protests against discrimination and exclusion.
